Cement Industries (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd. (CIS)

was incorporated in 1982 with the objective of setting up a clinker grinding plant at Sepanggar Bay to manufacture ordinary Portland cement for Sabah market consumption. CIS is a joint-venture entity between SEDCO which hold 50.14%, SPA hold 19.86%. The balance of 30% by Tasek Corporation Berhad a public listed company with long established business in the manufacturing of cement in Malaysia.

CIS commenced commercial production in August 1986 with a capacity of 500,000 metric tones (MT) per annum. Plant production capacity was expanded from 500,000 MT to 900,000 MT in 1998 with installation of the pre-grinding system. In February 2001, CIS was granted ISO 9000:1994 Quality Management System certification for the manufacture of ordinary Portland cement by Llyod’s Register Quality Assurance.

CIS has set up a Bulk Cement Terminal that is located within the Lahad Datu’s port area for the purpose of supplying cement for all the East Coast of Sabah’s market requirements. The terminal which has an annual capacity of 460,000 MT commenced its commercial operation in April 2009. With the operation of the cement terminal, the Sepangar bay’s plant production is now cater for the West Coast of Sabah’s cement requirements.
